Blogging Blockage And Going Back To Basics

Posted in Blog writing, General, 1 Comment

I’ve been starring at a blank word document for the last 10 minutes struggling to come to terms with my shameful defeat at the hands of this blog. But then – just as I’m waving the white flag in defeat and my cursor is hovering over the big bad red button…. it hits me!

I need to stop over-analysing and go back to basics.

So while I start work on my next instalment, here are few basic top tips for anyone, who like me, is currently suffering a temporary blogging blockage;

  • Include links to your original thoughts, or sources of information posted elsewhere.
  • Spend time researching before you post.
  • Be yourself and be chatty – Your readers need to get to know you.
  • You can always improve on the author’s own page title, when describing a link. (At least make sure your description is full enough that readers will recognize any pages they’ve already visited, without having to visit them again.)
  • Try and include some descriptive content on your own reaction to the linked page (useful, imaginative, clever, etc.)
  • Always credit the source that led you to it, so your readers have the option of “moving upstream.”
  • Re-post your favourite links from time to time, they may have been missed the first time round.
  • Post at least 4 times a week (even if it’s only one paragraph) by constantly updating your blog, visitors will have fresh content every time they visit your site.
  • Submit all your blogs to the major search engines and blog directories, this will allow more people will be able to find your blogs easily.
  • Make your blog interactive by adding comment boxes. It is a known fact that visitors like leaving comments, so keep this in mind when creating your blog.

So there it is! Going back to basics has inspired its own author and I’m off to put these gems into practice. I just hope I’ve helped you defeat the dreaded blogging blockage too!

Speak to you again soon fellow bloggers.
