Facebook in world domination and the impact on B2C data
2010 saw a huge increase in the usage of social media sites like twitter and Facebook, leading businesses, who up until now have been somewhat timid by the idea of social media, to embrace the concept and understand that to keep up in these modern times, their marketing strategy for 2011 needs to contain the use of social and collaboration platforms.
After all, Facebook WILL take over the world! And who wants to be left behind?
Due to the increase use of social tools both inside and outside business walls and the fact that within a few years the majority of users entering the workforce would belong to the Facebook age and would continue to communicate via Facebook and twitter, it could be we’ll see users adopting social networking far more than email. And with Facebook offering this new email messaging service, will it give them the ability to make current services such as Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail and such like completely redundant?!
So how will this impact current B2C data you may ask?
With lost emails and lost messages now lying dormant in redundant sources, early preparation is needed. List cleaning and shifting marketing strategies must remain a focus for the months ahead.
I even read recently that Facebook have been poaching staff from Google. Do we think Facebook may have a search engine function appearing soon?! Maybe so, but not without a fight it seems – to quote one newspaper: “Google are fighting hard to retain staff, and making generous counter offers to those staff considering their options”.
Is it bad of Facebook to take this approach? Well yes, a little.
Is it a well calculated move in the quest for world domination? Yes. Of course it is!
