You have responsibilites
If you are holding data and using it for any marketing activities you have responsibities. In this months video blog PML Associate, Janet Barnes from Profit Development, talks about those responsibilities and what the owner of that data (the data controller i.e. YOU) must take into consideration, what responsibilities a data controler has when owning data, the law around data protection and how you should safeguard data when your employess are managing it for your company.
As the new UK legislation on data use comes into effect on June 2011, companies should be preparing to make some pretty major changes in the way they use and gather personal information.

“Under the new Regulations, UK businesses and other organisations will have to gain consent on an opt-in basis to store, retrieve and use information from users’ visits to their websites and/or how they respond to emails (otherwise known as ‘cookies’ or ‘gifs’).”
